Description
The Charnley Hohmann Bone Elevator is used during orthopedic procedures when bone needs to be exposed and nearby soft tissue held away from the working area. It is suited to joint and trauma surgery, including hip arthroplasty, fracture fixation, osteotomy, and reconstructive procedures. The angled working end gives the surgeon another way to approach the bone when a straight instrument is not convenient.
The blade is 16 mm wide and set at a 45° angle. This allows the working end to sit against the bone while the shaft remains at a different angle to the operative site. The width provides enough surface for retraction without making the blade unnecessarily large for the areas where this type of elevator is used.
The overall length is 23.5 cm (9¼”). This gives the instrument a useful amount of reach while keeping it manageable in the hand. During hip and other joint procedures, the length can also help when the working area is deeper and the handle needs to remain clear of the immediate surgical field.
It is shaped for positioning against the bone rather than simply pushing tissue aside. Once placed, it can be used to maintain exposure while the surgeon works on the joint or bone. The 45° angle is particularly useful when the required point of retraction is not directly in line with the instrument shaft.
It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel. It is intended for repeated surgical use and routine sterilization. Proper cleaning and maintenance help preserve the instrument’s surface and resistance to corrosion through regular use.
With its 16 mm angled blade, 23.5 cm overall length, and Hohmann-style design, the Charnley Hohmann Bone Elevator provides a practical option for controlled bone exposure and soft tissue retraction. It is suitable for hip arthroplasty, fracture fixation, osteotomy, joint surgery, and reconstructive orthopedic procedures.
