Description

The Darrach Acromial Elevator is used to lift periosteum, soft tissue, and muscle attachments from the bone during orthopedic and reconstructive procedures. It is commonly used around the shoulder and acromial region, particularly when tissue needs to be separated from the bone to create access to the surgical area.

The working end has a broad, gently curved blade with a textured surface. The curve follows the shape of the area being worked on, while the textured surface provides contact with the tissue and periosteal layer during elevation. This makes the instrument suitable for controlled tissue separation rather than simply pushing tissue aside.

Several blade widths are available, ranging from 9 mm to 25 mm. The different sizes allow the surgeon to choose a working end according to the anatomy and the amount of tissue that needs to be elevated. A narrower blade may be preferable for more confined areas, while the wider options provide greater coverage.

The instrument has a robust shaft and ring-style handle. Standard models measure 26 cm (10¼”) overall, while the extra-large version measures 36 cm (14¼”). The longer version provides additional reach when working deeper in the surgical field or around larger anatomical areas. The ring handle also gives the user a secure grip while applying controlled pressure through the blade.

It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel. It is designed for repeated surgical use and routine sterilization. Proper cleaning and maintenance help preserve the working surface and the instrument’s resistance to corrosion.

With its curved textured blade, choice of 9–25 mm widths, and two available overall lengths, the Darrach Acromial Elevator can be selected for different tissue elevation requirements. It is suited to shoulder, acromial, trauma, and reconstructive procedures where controlled separation of tissue from bone is needed.
