Description

The Senn-Miller Retractor is a double-ended retractor used to hold back skin, soft tissue, and wound edges during surgery. Having two different working ends makes it useful when the surgeon needs to switch between a narrower grip and a broader blade without changing instruments. It is commonly used in plastic, reconstructive, hand, orthopedic, and general surgery.

One end has a 10 mm wide catspaw and is available with either sharp or blunt prongs. The sharp-pronged version gives a firmer hold when the tissue needs to stay securely retracted. The blunt version is a better choice when the tissue is more delicate and a gentler contact is preferred.

Turn the instrument around and there is a 20 mm × 7 mm Langenbeck-style blade. The wider blade provides a broader surface for retracting wound edges and superficial tissue. Having this blade on the opposite end is convenient during procedures where the required type of exposure changes as the work progresses.

The instrument measures 16 cm (6¼”) overall. Its compact size makes it easy to maneuver around smaller operative sites, while the double-ended design keeps both retraction options immediately available. The balanced construction also allows the surgeon to adjust the angle and amount of retraction without having to reach for a separate instrument.
