Description

The Travers Self-Retaining Retractor is made for keeping tissue retracted during surgery when the surgeon needs a clear working area without having to hold the instrument continuously. It is used in plastic, reconstructive, orthopedic, and general surgical procedures. The self-retaining design keeps the retractor open after it has been adjusted.

It has opposing 4 × 5 blunt prongs with a 26 mm prong depth. The deeper prongs give the instrument a firm hold on the tissue, while the blunt ends avoid the sharper penetration associated with pointed prongs. This makes the retractor suitable for procedures where soft tissue needs to be held for a longer period.

The 20 cm (8″) overall length gives the instrument enough reach for areas where a shorter retractor may not be suitable. The curved frame keeps the instrument away from the immediate working area and leaves room around the tissue being retracted. It can be positioned and adjusted as the procedure progresses.

A ratchet locking mechanism is used to set the opening of the retractor. Once the required width has been reached, the ratchet holds the frame there. If the tissue needs to be moved further or the exposure changed, the retractor can be released and adjusted again.

The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel and is intended for repeated use. Its stainless steel construction provides the strength needed for regular tissue retraction, along with resistance to corrosion when the instrument is properly cleaned and sterilized.
