Description

The Braithwaite Skin Graft Knife is used for harvesting split-thickness skin grafts during plastic, reconstructive, burn, and trauma surgery. It is designed for situations where the graft needs to be taken at a controlled thickness rather than simply cut free from the donor site.

The knife measures 30.5 cm (12″) overall and is supplied in a right-handed configuration. At the working end is a grooved roller bar that rotates and also moves from side to side as the knife is used. This gives the roller a distinctive movement as it travels across the donor site during graft harvesting.

The thickness of the graft is adjusted with the adjuster nuts at the ends of the instrument. Turning the nuts raises or lowers the roller bar, changing the cutting depth. The setting can therefore be changed according to the thickness required for the particular graft.

The roller bar is an important part of the instrument’s design. Unlike a fixed roller, it oscillates from side to side while rotating as the knife moves across the skin. The long handle provides room to guide the instrument across the donor area and maintain control during the harvesting process.

It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, making it suitable for repeated surgical use and sterilization. With proper cleaning and maintenance, the material provides durability and resistance to corrosion.
