The Mallet is a surgical striking instrument used when a controlled impact is needed during an operative procedure. It is commonly used alongside other surgical instruments that require gentle or firm tapping, particularly in orthopedic surgery. Having different head weights available allows the instrument to be chosen according to the amount of force the procedure calls for.

Three head sizes are available, with diameters of 30 mm, 35 mm, and 40 mm. The 30 mm head weighs 350 g (12 oz), the 35 mm head weighs 550 g (20 oz), and the 40 mm head weighs 700 g (25 oz). This range gives the surgical team a choice between lighter and heavier striking force rather than relying on a single mallet for every application.

At 23 cm (9″) overall, the mallet has a solid cylindrical head connected to a straight metal shaft and a substantial contoured handle. The striking surfaces are broad and flat, providing a defined contact area when the mallet is used with another surgical instrument. Its simple construction also means there are no complicated moving parts to interfere with handling.

The handle has a broad shape with a slight narrowing through the centre, giving the hand a comfortable area to hold during repeated movements. The overall proportions keep the mallet easy to control while still providing enough weight in the head for applications where a stronger impact is required.

In orthopedic procedures, the appropriate mallet weight can depend on the instrument being struck and the work being carried out. The lighter 350 g version can be selected when less force is needed, while the 550 g and 700 g options provide progressively greater impact. This makes the three patterns useful for different stages and requirements of surgical work.

The Mallet is manufactured from premium surgical-grade stainless steel and is intended for repeated use in the operating room. Each instrument is subject to quality inspection for its construction, finish, and working condition before supply.
