The Nerve Root Retractor is designed to gently hold a spinal nerve root away from the operative area while providing suction to help keep the field clear. It is suited to spinal procedures where access around delicate neural structures is limited. The working end has a broad, smooth retraction surface, while the suction function is built into the instrument so retraction and aspiration can be handled together.

The retraction tip is available in 5 mm and 7 mm widths, giving a choice of contact area depending on the space and tissue being handled. Its curved profile allows the tip to sit against the tissue during controlled retraction rather than relying on a narrow pointed end.

Measuring 31 cm (12″) overall, the instrument has a 12 cm (4¾”) working length. The extended shaft gives it the reach needed for a deeper spinal field while keeping the handle away from the immediate operative site. The angled shape also helps bring the working end into position without placing the hand directly over the area being treated.

The integrated suction is useful during procedures such as lumbar decompression and discectomy, where fluid or blood can collect around the operative site. Keeping aspiration close to the retraction point can help maintain visibility while the nerve root is held aside. Suction-assisted nerve-root retraction is particularly relevant in spinal disc surgery.

The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel for repeated surgical use and sterilization. Before use, the tip should be checked for smoothness and alignment, while the suction opening and connector should be inspected for blockage or damage. Proper cleaning and sterilization should be carried out according to the facility’s established reprocessing procedure.
