Description

The Smith-Petersen Osteotome is used in orthopedic surgery for cutting and removing bone. It is 20 cm (8″) long and has a broad blade with a choice of straight or curved pattern. The handle has a rounded end for use with a surgical mallet when controlled force is needed.

Both blade patterns are available in 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, and 30 mm widths. The smaller sizes are useful when working on a more limited area, while the wider blades cover more bone with each cut. Having straight and curved versions also allows the osteotome to be chosen according to the surgical approach.

The straight blade has a direct cutting edge, while the curved version follows a different line into the working area. The blade is broad and solid rather than fine, making this instrument suitable for orthopedic procedures where bone needs to be cut or shaped.

At 20 cm in length, the osteotome provides enough room for the surgeon to position the blade while holding the instrument securely. The impact end of the handle is shaped for controlled tapping, rather than being designed only as a hand-held cutting instrument.

Made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, the osteotome is suitable for repeated professional use and sterilization. Each instrument is carefully checked for quality, including the blade edge, shaft, handle, and overall finish. The blade should also be inspected before use for chips, bending, or other damage.

Available in straight and curved patterns, with widths from 10 mm to 30 mm, the Smith-Petersen Osteotome covers several common blade sizes for orthopedic bone-cutting work.
