Description
The Cement Osteotome is designed for removing and working through bone cement during orthopedic procedures. It measures 30 cm (12″) and has a straight and flat working blade attached to a long shaft. The extended length gives the instrument useful reach when working deeper in the operative area.
The osteotome comes in 5 mm, 7 mm, and 10 mm blade widths. The narrower 5 mm blade provides a smaller cutting surface, while the wider sizes cover more cement with each pass. The choice of width can be made according to the space available and the amount of cement that needs to be removed.
The blade has a broad and straight cutting edge that sits at the end of the narrow shaft. This keeps the working end easy to position while the handle remains farther back. The shaft also gives the osteotome a little more reach when access to the cement is limited.
The handle is made from Tufnol and has a shaped and ridged surface that gives the hand a secure hold. A strike plate at the end allows controlled blows from a suitable surgical mallet when additional force is needed. The handle and shaft are designed to give a firm connection between the user’s hand and the working blade.
The different blade widths make the instrument useful for more than one type of cement removal task. A smaller blade can be used when working around a restricted area, while a wider blade can help when a larger section needs to be cleared. The 30 cm (12″) length remains the same across the available sizes.
The working metal portion is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, while the Tufnol handle is designed for this type of orthopedic instrument. Each instrument is carefully checked for quality, including the blade edge, shaft, handle connection, and strike plate. The blade should be inspected before use for chips, bending, or other damage.
The Cement Osteotome provides a long-handled option for controlled cement removal, with different blade widths to suit the working area and surgical requirement.
