Description
Carter Septum Elevator is a double-ended instrument designed for tissue elevation and work around the nasal septum. It measures 21 cm (8¼”) and has a slim shaft with a different working end on each side. This gives the surgeon two useful tip shapes in one instrument, without having to switch tools during the procedure.
One end has a small rounded tip that can be used for lifting and separating tissue. The other end has a flatter, curved curette shape. Having these two ends together makes the instrument useful when the surgeon needs to move between gentle tissue elevation and more defined work along the septal area.
The long, narrow shafts allow the working ends to reach into the nasal cavity while the hand stays farther back. A septum elevator of this type can be used during procedures such as septoplasty and rhinoplasty, where the mucosa may need to be lifted away from the septal cartilage. The blunt working surfaces are intended for controlled tissue handling rather than cutting.
At 21 cm (8¼”) long, the instrument gives plenty of reach without making the handle difficult to control. The center section has a textured surface that gives the fingers a more secure hold during use. From there, the shafts become much narrower toward each working end, making the tips easier to guide into the surgical area.
The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel, with the material marked on the handle. The smooth metal construction is suitable for repeated surgical use when properly cleaned and sterilized. Before use, both working ends should be checked for damage, rough spots, or changes in shape, while the shafts and handle should also be inspected.
For nasal procedures requiring more than one type of working end, Carter Septum Elevator offers a useful double-ended design. Its 21 cm (8¼”) length, rounded elevator tip, and curved curette end give the surgeon different options for handling tissue around the septum without changing instruments.
