Description
Cottle Alar Retractor Insulated is a compact nasal retractor designed to hold the alar tissue aside during nasal procedures. It measures 14 cm (5½”) in length and has a 12 mm wide working end. Its short overall size makes it easy to position around the nostril without taking up too much room in the surgical field.
The working end has a curved, rounded shape that follows the edge of the tissue being retracted. Rather than using sharp prongs, the broad end provides a smooth surface for holding the tissue aside. The shape also gives the surgeon a clear view of the area while the retractor is in place.
This type of retractor can be used during rhinoplasty and other nasal procedures where the alar edge needs to be moved out of the way. Its compact working end is useful around the nostril, where a larger retractor can feel cumbersome. The 12 mm width gives the tissue a reasonable contact area without making the instrument unnecessarily wide.
At 14 cm (5½”) long, the retractor is easy to hold and adjust with one hand. The shaft is straight and narrow, leading from the handle to the curved working end. The handle has a blue insulated covering, while the exposed shaft remains visible between the handle and the retractor end.
The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel, with the material marked on the shaft, and has an insulated blue section around the handle and working end. Before use, the insulation should be checked for cracks, peeling, or other damage. The retractor end and exposed shaft should also be inspected for dents or rough areas, followed by proper cleaning and sterilization.
For nasal procedures where the alar tissue needs to be held aside, Cottle Alar Retractor Insulated offers a small working end and an easy-to-handle design. Its 14 cm (5½”) length and 12 mm width make it suitable for controlled retraction around the nostril, while the insulated section clearly sets it apart from a standard metal retractor.
