Description
The Gorney Septum Morselizer is used to soften and reduce septal cartilage during nasal surgery. At 20 cm / 8 inches, it has a long reach with an angled shaft that helps bring the jaws into position without making the hand sit too close to the working end. The double-action mechanism also makes the handles easier to operate when more pressure is needed.
The jaws have a 17 × 5 mm working area with deep serrations and tungsten carbide surfaces. The serrations grip the cartilage as the jaws close, while the carbide surfaces provide a hard, durable contact point. This combination is useful when firm septal cartilage needs to be broken down without simply cutting it away.
This type of morselizer is used in rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and nasal reconstructive procedures where septal cartilage is prepared for grafting or structural work. Morselizing makes the cartilage softer and more workable, which can help when a graft needs to be shaped or placed into a specific area.
The double-action design gives the jaws a stronger closing movement than a basic single-hinge instrument. The angled shaft is another useful part of the design, especially when working around the nasal septum. A slip-on guard is supplied with some configurations to protect the jaws when the instrument is stored.
The instrument uses a surgical stainless steel body with tungsten carbide jaws, giving it a firm reusable construction and harder working surfaces at the point of contact. The serrated jaws should be cleaned carefully after use, and the hinge and jaw alignment should be checked during routine instrument inspection. Comparable Gorney models are also specified with serrated tungsten carbide jaws and spring handles.
For septal cartilage preparation, the Gorney Septum Morselizer combines an 18 cm / 8-inch class of working reach with angled double-action jaws and a 17 × 5 mm tungsten carbide working surface. It is made for controlled morselization when cartilage needs to become softer and easier to shape during nasal surgery.
