Description
The McIndoe Chisel is used for cutting and shaping bone during nasal and facial surgery. It measures 15 cm / 6″ and has a broad, curved cutting edge at the tip. The shaft is straight, ending in a textured handle that gives a firm hold while the chisel is being positioned and tapped.
It comes in 9 mm, 11 mm, 13 mm, and 15 mm sizes. The smaller widths can be used where less bone needs to be worked on, while the wider sizes cover more of the surface. Having four widths makes it easier to pick a chisel that matches the area being treated.
In rhinoplasty and nasal reconstruction, this type of chisel can be used to cut, trim, and reshape the nasal bones. It may also be used for controlled osteotomies when changing the shape of the nasal framework. The curved edge gives a wider cutting surface while the straight shaft keeps the instrument easy to position.
The 9 mm option is the narrowest, while the 15 mm option has the widest working edge. The 11 mm and 13 mm sizes fall between the two. With an overall length of 15 cm, the instrument is short enough to handle comfortably while working around the nasal area.
The chisel is made from surgical stainless steel, giving it a solid construction for repeated surgical use. The cutting edge should be checked for chips, dents, or other damage during routine inspection. The shaft and textured handle should also be kept clean and checked before the instrument is used again.
For nasal bone work, the McIndoe Chisel offers four working widths in a compact 15 cm / 6″ instrument. The curved edge is suited to cutting and reshaping bone, while the different sizes give options for narrower or broader areas during rhinoplasty and related facial procedures.
