Description
The Killian Septum Gouge is a bayonet-shaped instrument for working on the nasal septum during septoplasty and related nasal procedures. It measures 16 cm / 6¼” and has a 6 mm round cutting edge. The angled shaft keeps the handle away from the immediate working area while the tip is placed against the septal bone.
There are two 6 mm versions: one with a round cutting edge and one with a notched cutting edge. The round edge gives a smooth cutting surface, while the notched pattern has a small opening at the tip. Both have the same length and bayonet-shaped profile.
During septoplasty and nasal reconstruction, the instrument can be used to cut and remove portions of septal cartilage or bone. Its bayonet shape is useful when working deeper inside the nasal cavity, where a straight instrument can be harder to position. The 6 mm width gives a relatively broad working edge for septal work.
The two tip patterns give the surgeon a choice based on the type of work being carried out. The round edge provides a continuous cutting surface, while the notched edge has a more open tip. The textured handle also gives a firm grip when the instrument is being positioned or tapped.
Made from surgical stainless steel, the gouge has the solid construction expected from a reusable nasal instrument. Every piece goes through our quality inspection process before dispatch. Our quality inspectors examine the cutting edge, bayonet shaft, handle, surface finish, and overall construction to ensure the finished instrument meets our required standards.
For septal surgery, the Killian Septum Gouge combines a 16 cm / 6¼” length with a 6 mm working edge and two tip patterns. The bayonet shape keeps the working end accessible inside the nasal area, making it suitable for controlled septal bone and cartilage work during septoplasty and related procedures.
