Description

The Maltz (Parkes) Nasal Rasp is used for smoothing and shaping bone during nasal surgery. It measures 18 cm / 7″ and has a textured working surface with a backward-cutting pattern. The long handle gives the surgeon a firm hold while the rasp is moved across the nasal bone to gradually remove small amounts of material.

It is available in coarse, medium, and fine surfaces. The coarse pattern is suited to more noticeable reduction, while the medium and fine surfaces allow the surgeon to work more gradually as the shape is refined. The different grades make it possible to change the amount of material being removed without changing the basic instrument.

In rhinoplasty, a nasal rasp can be used to smooth the nasal dorsum, reduce uneven areas, and refine bone after osteotomy. It may also be used during reconstructive nasal procedures where the bone needs to be brought into a smoother contour. The backward-cutting pattern is designed to remove material on the pulling stroke.

The working surface has a fine, closely arranged tooth pattern that gives the rasp its cutting action. Moving the instrument backward across the bone gradually reduces the surface rather than taking away a large section at once. This is useful when the surgeon is making smaller changes to the nasal profile.

The rasp has a surgical stainless steel construction with a tungsten carbide working surface, combining a durable instrument body with a hard cutting surface. Before dispatch, every piece goes through our quality inspection process. Our quality inspectors examine the working surface, handle, shaft, finish, and overall construction to make sure the instrument meets our required standards.

For nasal contouring, the Maltz (Parkes) Nasal Rasp gives three surface grades for moving from heavier shaping to finer finishing work. Its 18 cm / 7″ length and backward-cutting pattern make it well suited to controlled smoothing and refinement of the nasal bones during rhinoplasty and related procedures.
