Description

The Deavers Abdominal Retractor is used to hold back tissue and improve access during abdominal surgery. It has a long and curved body. It has a broad blade at one end and a short upturned lip at the other end. The two ends bend in different directions that give the retractor its distinctive shape.

The available lengths for this instrument are 300 mm and 330 mm. The blade widths include 25 mm, 38 mm, 50 mm, and 75 mm, depending on the selected size. Most options are 300 mm long, while the 330 mm pattern has a 25 mm width. These variations are a very good feature. The surgeon is allowed to choose a retractor as per their requirement. The incision and the amount of tissue that needs to be moved may require different size of retractors.

One end forms a wide, curved blade that can be placed beneath or alongside tissue. The long, gently bending shaft extends back toward the handle end, where a small raised lip helps keep the instrument positioned. There are no moving parts or locking mechanism; the retractor is a single, solid piece.

These retractors are used in general and abdominal surgery, including laparotomy and procedures involving deeper structures within the abdominal cavity.
