Description

The Ross Atrial Basket is a surgical instrument that is used to retrieve or collect material from within the atrium. It is used during cardiac procedures. Its working end has a rounded and cage-like shape with multiple openings around the metal basket. These openings form the main part of the instrument and the opposite end connects to compatible tubing.

The basket is available in four sizes. Two versions have a length of 29 mm, with tubing diameters of 12.7 mm (½”) and 9.5 mm (⅜”). Another measures 19 mm and fits 9.5 mm (⅜”) tubing. The smallest version is 16 mm long and fits 6.3 mm (¼”) tubing. The choice depends on the required basket size and tubing connection.

The working end is short and rounded, with circular openings arranged across its surface. The metal bars between these openings form the basket structure. This open design distinguishes it from solid-ended instruments and allows the basket to serve as the collecting end during the procedure. The four options differ in overall basket length and the size of the tubing connection.

At the rear, each version has a cylindrical connector with ridged sections for attachment to compatible tubing. The connector is narrower than the basket body, and creates a transition from the wider working end to the tubing connection. The overall instrument is compact, with the basket forming most of the visible working portion.

The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel and is intended for use according to the applicable clinical and sterilization requirements.
