Description

The Williams Discectomy Rongeur is a small, focused instrument for removing disc material during discectomy and other spinal procedures. Unlike a larger rongeur, this model has a 1 mm bite, so it is made for taking very small amounts of material at a time. When the job calls for a little more control over what is being removed, that small bite can be useful.

The working end has a single-toothed cup jaw. The cup shape gives the material somewhere to sit once it has been grasped, while the single tooth helps hold the small piece in place. It is a fairly simple design, but that is also what makes this type of rongeur handy when there isn’t much room to work with.

The instrument has a slender profile and measures 14 cm (5½”) in length. Its shorter shaft keeps the instrument compact and makes it easier to position when working around a smaller surgical site. Rather than having a large jaw or a long shaft, the Williams model keeps things small at both ends.

The 1 mm bite is particularly worth noting. A wider bite isn’t always what you want when dealing with a small piece of disc material. With this rongeur, the smaller opening lets the user work in smaller steps instead of taking more material than intended.

It is made from surgical-grade stainless steel and is checked during production before it is supplied. Quality checks include the overall finish and the movement of the jaws, helping make sure the instrument is in proper working condition. Stainless steel also makes it suitable for the regular cleaning and care required for reusable surgical instruments.

With its 1 mm single-toothed cup jaw, slender design, and 14 cm shaft, the Williams Discectomy Rongeur is a straightforward choice when a small working end is preferred. It fits well into an instrument set where controlled, targeted disc removal is needed.
