Description

The Lanes Bone Elevator is used during orthopedic and trauma procedures to lift periosteum and move soft tissue away from the bone. It can also be used during reconstructive procedures where the bone needs to be exposed before further work is carried out.

The blade is broad and curved, with a serrated surface on the inner side. The curve gives the blade a good working surface for lifting tissue, while the serrations help keep the tissue from sliding during use. It can be used around the bone when a wider elevator is preferred.

At 26 cm (10″) long, the Lanes provides plenty of reach for deeper operative areas. The length also keeps the hand a reasonable distance from the working end. A ring handle at the other end gives the user a secure place to hold the instrument while applying pressure or changing its position.

The elevator can be used for periosteal elevation, soft tissue retraction, and bone exposure. It is particularly relevant to orthopedic work such as fracture treatment and bone reconstruction, where tissue often has to be moved aside before the underlying bone can be reached.

It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel. It is suitable for repeated use and can be cleaned and sterilized as part of normal surgical instrument care. Proper maintenance also helps protect the surface from corrosion and keeps the instrument in good condition.

There is not much complication to the design: a long shaft, broad curved blade, serrated inner surface, and ring handle make up the instrument. The Lanes Bone Elevator is intended for straightforward tissue and periosteal elevation when working around bone.
