Description

The Howarth Elevator is a double-ended instrument used for lifting periosteum and moving soft tissue away from the bone during orthopedic and spinal procedures. It can also be used during tissue dissection when the surgical area needs to be opened up before the main part of the procedure.

The two ends have broad elevator blades, giving the user different working surfaces without having to reach for another instrument. The blades can be used for lifting periosteum, reflecting soft tissue, and developing the tissue plane around the operative area. Having both ends available is especially handy when the angle or amount of tissue being lifted changes during the procedure.

A smooth central handle sits between the working ends. It keeps the instrument balanced and provides a comfortable grip while the elevator is being positioned or turned. At 21.5 cm (8½”) overall, it offers enough length for access while remaining manageable in the hand.

The broad ends are useful when a wider surface is preferred for moving tissue rather than working with a very fine tip. The two-ended design also makes it possible to switch between working surfaces simply by turning the instrument over.

Made from surgical-grade stainless steel, it is intended for repeated surgical use. It undergoes quality inspection before supply, including checks of the working ends, central handle, and overall finish. The stainless-steel construction also allows the instrument to be cleaned and sterilized as part of normal reusable instrument care.
