The Baby Inge Bone Spreader is a small orthopedic instrument used to distract and hold apart small bones during foot, ankle, trauma, and reconstructive procedures. Its compact size makes it suitable for working around smaller skeletal structures, particularly when the available space is limited and the surgeon needs a controlled way to maintain the operative gap.

The spreader is available with three jaw patterns: toothed, smooth, and cross-serrated. The toothed version is intended for a firmer hold on the bone, while the smooth pattern offers a less aggressive contact surface. The cross-serrated jaws provide another option when additional grip is needed during distraction. All three versions have a 7 mm jaw width.

The jaws are curved, which gives the working end a different approach to the bone than a straight spreader. This can be useful around the contours of the foot and ankle, where positioning a straight instrument may be awkward. The curved jaws are opened through the instrument’s spreading mechanism.

A ratcheted mechanism allows the jaws to be opened gradually and held at the selected position. The overall length is 18 cm (7″), keeping the spreader manageable for procedures involving smaller bones while still providing enough length for controlled handling. The surgeon can adjust the amount of distraction as the procedure progresses rather than having to hold the handles continuously.
