Description

The Kelsey Fry Bone Awl is a slender wiring instrument measuring 15 cm / 6″ in length. It has a long narrow shaft with a small pointed working end and a large oval ring handle at the opposite side. The instrument is available in curved and straight patterns, both with an eye near the tip for passing wire.

The straight pattern keeps the shaft in one line from the handle to the working end. The curved pattern follows the same general shape but has a gentle bend near the tip. Both versions have a small eye in the working end, clearly visible close to the pointed tip. The shaft remains slim along most of its length.

The ring handle is a simple elongated loop rather than a bulky grip. It joins the shaft through a narrow neck, keeping the instrument light and easy to guide around the bone. At the front, the pointed tip with eye is designed to pass through the tissues and around the bone, while the eye provides a place to thread the wire.

It is used in maxillofacial surgery for passing wire during jaw fixation and wiring procedures. The curved pattern is used for circummandibular wiring, where the awl is passed around the body of the mandible. The straight pattern can be used for per-alveolar wiring. Once the awl has been guided into position, wire can be threaded through the eye and drawn back through the required path.

The surgical stainless steel construction gives the awl a firm, narrow shaft and smooth metal surface for repeated clinical use. The handle and shaft form one continuous instrument, with no moving parts. Before dispatch, every piece goes through our quality inspection process. Our quality inspectors examine the tip, eye opening, shaft alignment, curved or straight profile, handle, and surface finish before the instrument is packed.

The Kelsey Fry Bone Awl is offered in curved and straight patterns, with an overall length of 15 cm / 6″. Its narrow shaft, pointed eyelet tip, and elongated ring handle give it the familiar shape of a wiring awl used in oral and maxillofacial procedures.
