The Alms Retractor – Long is a self-retaining retractor for holding tissue apart during plastic, reconstructive, dermatologic, and hand surgery. It follows the same basic idea as the shorter Alms pattern, but the longer body and deeper prongs make it better suited to areas where a little more reach is needed.

At the working end are opposing 4 × 4 blunt prongs with a 5 mm depth. The blunt tips provide a steady hold on the tissue without the sharper contact of pointed prongs. The extra depth gives the prongs more tissue to engage, which can be useful when the retractor needs to maintain its position during a procedure.

The instrument measures 10 cm (4″) overall. Its compact length still makes it easy to position around a smaller operative site, while giving the surgeon more reach than the shorter pattern. The retractor can be adjusted to suit the opening required, rather than relying on a fixed position.

An adjustable screw mechanism controls how far the two sides open. Once the desired position has been set, the mechanism keeps the prongs apart without requiring someone to hold the instrument continuously. This leaves the surgeon’s hands available for other parts of the procedure and can be particularly useful when steady exposure is needed.

Made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, the retractor is intended for repeated surgical use.
