Description
The Alms Retractor is a small self-retaining retractor made for procedures where the surgical opening is limited. It can be used in plastic, dermatologic, hand, and minor surgical procedures to hold tissue apart while the surgeon works, without needing someone to keep the retractor in position by hand.
The working end has opposing 4 × 4 blunt prongs. The prongs have a 4 mm depth, giving them enough purchase to hold superficial tissue while the blunt ends provide a gentler contact than sharper prongs. This makes the retractor useful when the tissue being held needs to be treated carefully.
At just 7 cm (2¾”) long, it is particularly suited to small incisions and confined operative areas. Its compact size leaves plenty of room around the surgical site and makes it easy to position close to the incision. The short design also means the retractor does not need a long handle extending across the working area.
The adjustable screw mechanism is what keeps the instrument in place once it has been positioned. Turning the screw changes the opening of the prongs, allowing the surgeon to set the amount of separation required for the particular procedure. Once adjusted, the retractor can maintain the exposure without continuous hand pressure.
The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, providing the durability and corrosion resistance needed for repeated surgical use. It is suitable for routine cleaning and sterilization, and the prongs, screw mechanism, and frame are inspected for proper movement and finish before the instrument is supplied.
With its 4 × 4 blunt prongs, 4 mm depth, adjustable screw, and compact 7 cm length, the Alms Retractor is well suited to small surgical exposures where stable, hands-free tissue retraction is needed.
