Description
The Caspar Vertebral Body Distraction Set is a specialized spinal instrumentation system designed for anterior cervical spine procedures, including anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), cervical decompression, and disc replacement surgery. The system enables controlled distraction of adjacent vertebral bodies, creating improved access to the intervertebral disc space for decompression, disc removal, endplate preparation, and implant placement. Its design helps optimize surgical exposure while maintaining procedural precision and efficiency.
The set consists of right and left distraction retractors, right and left drill guides, a screwdriver, a distraction drill, and sterile Caspar distraction screws. The distraction drill is used to create pilot holes for screw placement, while the drill guides assist in accurate screw trajectory and positioning. Sterile distraction screws are available with thread lengths of 12 mm, 14 mm, and 16 mm and feature a 7 cm (2¾”) post length. Once positioned within the vertebral bodies above and below the target disc space, the screws allow controlled engagement of the distraction retractors to achieve precise vertebral separation.
The distraction retractors are engineered to provide stable and controlled distraction during surgery while reducing unnecessary pressure on surrounding soft tissues. By distracting the vertebral bodies directly through the distraction screws rather than relying solely on soft tissue retraction, the system helps improve visualization and surgical access to the disc space.
