The Charnley Horizontal Hip Retractor is used during hip surgery when the surgeon needs a wider and more stable view of the operative area. It is a self-retaining design, so once positioned, it can hold the surrounding tissue and structures away from the working site without someone having to keep the retractor in place by hand. The horizontal arrangement gives the instrument a relatively low position around the operative field.
