Description

The Cones Self Retaining Retractor is used to hold tissue apart during orthopedic, spinal, plastic, reconstructive, and general surgical procedures. Its self-retaining design keeps the retracted tissue in position without requiring someone to hold the instrument throughout the procedure. The jointed arms also give the retractor some flexibility when it is being placed around the operative area.

The working end has opposing 3 × 4 prongs, available in both sharp and blunt patterns. Sharp prongs provide a firmer hold on tissue, while blunt prongs can be selected when a less aggressive form of retraction is preferred. The choice between the two depends on the procedure and the tissue being handled.

Several sizes are available. The 13 cm (5″) and 16 cm (6½”) patterns both have a 15 mm depth. The 20 cm (8″) version has a 20 mm depth, and the largest 24 cm (9½”) version has a 25 mm depth. This range covers smaller exposures as well as procedures where the working area lies deeper.

Both the sharp and blunt versions are offered in these same four size configurations. The jointed construction allows the arms to move as the retractor is positioned, which can be helpful when the tissue does not sit at a completely straight angle. Once the required opening has been reached, the self-retaining mechanism keeps the arms in place.

The different lengths and depths make it possible to choose a pattern according to the operative field rather than relying on one fixed size. The smaller versions take up less space, while the 20 cm and 24 cm patterns provide greater depth for deeper exposure.
