Description

The Cooley Retractor is used to hold the edges of an incision apart during open chest surgery. It has two long curved arms joined to a central toothed bar. There’s a screw mechanism sits near the middle and is used to move the arms apart. The handles curve outward, leaving the adjustment part clear of the main working area.

The retractor has an overall length of 30 cm (11¾”) and can reach a maximum spread of 190 mm. Five blade sizes are available. The blade widths are 50 mm, 100 mm, and 115 mm, while the blade depths are either 36 mm or 40 mm, depending on the size.

The available combinations are 50 × 40 mm, 100 × 40 mm, 100 × 36 mm, 115 × 40 mm, and 115 × 36 mm. The blades are broad and curved, with the working surfaces facing inward. The central bar has a row of teeth along its length, allowing the arms to be moved and held at different positions.

It is used mainly in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, where the tissues or chest opening need to be held apart for access. It can be used during open-heart procedures and other operations involving the chest. The screw adjustment lets the spread be increased gradually instead of opening the retractor all at once.

The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel for repeated use in the operating room. Before dispatch, every piece goes through our quality inspection process. The arms, toothed bar, screw mechanism, blade surfaces, and moving parts are checked for proper movement, alignment, and finish.

With a 30 cm overall length, maximum spread of 190 mm, and five blade size options, the Cooley Retractor can be selected according to the amount of exposure required. Its broad curved blades and central adjustment mechanism make it suitable for holding the operative opening apart during cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.
