Description

Cottle Hook is a small double-prong instrument used to hold and retract tissue during nasal and plastic surgery. It measures 14 cm (5½”) in length and has a compact working end that fits easily into the limited space around the nose. The long handle gives the surgeon enough room to control the hook without placing the hand directly over the working area.

The working end has two prongs, with different tip options available. One version has two sharp prongs, while the other versions combine one blunt ball tip with one sharp prong. The ball can be positioned on either the right or left side, allowing the instrument to match the surgeon’s preferred approach.

The sharp prong gives a firmer hold on tissue, while the rounded ball tip provides a less penetrating contact point. This mixed arrangement can be useful when tissue needs to be held from two different points during nasal surgery. Cottle hooks are commonly used for tissue retraction in rhinoplasty and other nasal or plastic surgery procedures.

At 14 cm (5½”) long, the hook is easy to maneuver in a small surgical field. The handle is flat with fine grooves along the gripping area, giving the fingers a secure hold. The narrow shaft then runs toward the two-prong end, keeping the working tip small and easy to position around the nasal structures.

The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel, providing the strength and durability needed for repeated surgical use. Before use, the sharp prongs and ball tip should be checked for proper shape and alignment, while the shaft and handle should also be inspected for damage. Proper cleaning and sterilization should be carried out between procedures.

For nasal procedures that require a small hook with different tip options, Cottle Hook gives the surgeon a choice between two sharp prongs or a mixed sharp-and-ball configuration. Its 14 cm (5½”) length and compact double-prong end make it practical for controlled tissue retraction around the nose.
