Description
Cottle Nasal Speculum is used to open the nasal passage and keep the area visible during nasal and ENT procedures. It measures 14 cm (5½”) in length and has slender blades that fit into the nostril without taking up too much space. The compact design makes it easy to position and control during use.
The blades are narrow and smooth, with a shape that allows them to sit against the nasal walls while the handles remain outside the working area. Their slender profile is useful when the surgeon needs access to a smaller space and does not want a bulky blade getting in the way.
The speculum is available with 20 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm, and 60 mm blade lengths. These options make it possible to choose a blade size according to the depth and amount of access required. The overall instrument length stays at 14 cm (5½”), while the blade length changes between the available options.
A locking screw is positioned between the handles and can be used to hold the blades at the selected opening. This means the surgeon does not have to keep squeezing the handles to maintain the position. The curved handles also have textured areas that give the fingers a better grip while the speculum is being adjusted.
The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel, as indicated on the instrument. The metal construction is suitable for repeated surgical use when properly maintained. Before use, the blades should be checked for alignment, dents, or rough edges, while the locking screw and joint should also be checked for smooth movement. Proper cleaning and sterilization should follow between procedures.
For nasal examinations and procedures where controlled opening of the nasal passage is needed, Cottle Nasal Speculum offers a straightforward design with slender blades and adjustable positioning. Its 14 cm (5½”) length, locking screw, and four blade-length options make it easy to select a size suited to the required access.
