Description
Cottle Septum Elevator is a double-ended instrument designed for lifting and separating tissue during nasal and septal procedures. It measures 20 cm (8″) in length and has a graduated design, with a working end on each side of the central handle. The two ends give the surgeon more than one option without needing to change instruments during the procedure.
The ends are different in shape, with one side having a broader rounded tip and the other a narrower working end. Both have smooth, blunt surfaces rather than sharp cutting edges. This makes the instrument suitable for gently lifting tissue and working along the septum without using a pointed tip.
The graduated working ends are useful when the surgeon needs to work at slightly different depths or use different tip sizes during the same procedure. Having both ends on one instrument also keeps the setup simple. It can be used during nasal surgery where the mucosa and septal tissues need to be carefully lifted or separated.
At 20 cm (8″) long, the elevator provides enough reach for work inside the nasal cavity while leaving the hand comfortably away from the immediate surgical area. The center handle is broad and flat, giving the hand a steady grip. The long shafts on either side keep the working ends easy to position and move.
The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel, as marked on the handle. Its smooth metal construction is suitable for repeated surgical use when properly cleaned and sterilized. Before use, both working ends should be checked for dents, rough areas, or changes in their shape, while the shafts and handle should also be inspected for any damage.
For septal work where different working ends are useful, Cottle Septum Elevator offers a simple double-ended design that saves the need to switch between separate instruments. Its 20 cm (8″) length, graduated ends, and smooth rounded tips make it suitable for controlled tissue elevation and handling during nasal procedures.
