Description

The Derf Needle Holder is a small needle holder intended for fine suturing. It is commonly suited to plastic, ophthalmic, microsurgical, and other procedures where the needle is small and needs to be positioned accurately. Its compact form also makes it easier to work in a limited operative area.

The jaws are offered in two patterns: standard serrated and smooth. The serrated version has a textured gripping surface for holding the needle, while the smooth version provides an alternative for surgeons who prefer a different jaw surface for fine suturing. Having both options allows the instrument to be selected according to the procedure and the type of needle being used.

At 12 cm (4¾”), this is a relatively short needle holder. The length keeps the instrument easy to handle when the working area is close to the hand. It is also convenient for procedures where the surgeon needs to make small adjustments to the needle rather than use a longer instrument.

The fine jaw profile is another useful part of the design. When working with small needles, a bulky jaw can make positioning more difficult. The narrower working end gives the user a clearer view of the needle and the area where it is being placed.

The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel. Before supply, it is inspected for the condition and alignment of the jaws, the opening and closing action, and the overall finish. The tungsten carbide handles are also checked as part of the inspection process. Like other reusable stainless-steel surgical instruments, it can be cleaned and maintained between uses according to the appropriate instrument-care procedures.
