Description

The Freers Elevator/Dissector is a double-ended instrument. It is used for lifting soft tissue, separating tissue planes, and reflecting periosteum from bone or cartilage. It is used in spinal, orthopedic, ENT, and reconstructive procedures. Having an elevator and dissector together makes it possible to switch between the two working ends without changing instruments.

Both ends have broad and atraumatic working surfaces that are used for lifting and separating tissue. The contoured ends can be used to work along the surface of bone or cartilage and to develop tissue planes during dissection. The shape also gives the user a reasonable amount of control when working around delicate structures.

A knurled handle is positioned in the centre of the instrument. Its textured surface provides a secure grip, which is helpful when the instrument needs to be held firmly while making smaller movements. The two ends have different working surfaces, so the instrument can be turned around when the other end is needed.

The 18.5 cm (7¼”) overall length keeps the instrument relatively compact and easy to maneuver. It provides enough length for access while still allowing the user to maintain control of the working end.

Made from surgical-grade stainless steel, it is intended as a reusable surgical instrument. Quality inspection is carried out before supply, including checks of the finish and condition of the working ends and central handle. The stainless-steel construction also allows the instrument to undergo regular cleaning and sterilization as part of routine instrument care.
