Description
The Kilner Catspaw Retractor – Miniature Pattern is a double-ended retractor for working with skin and superficial soft tissue. Having two different working ends on one instrument is useful when the type of retraction changes during a procedure. It is commonly used in plastic, reconstructive, dermatologic, and hand surgery.
One end has an 8 mm wide catspaw with sharp prongs. The prongs give the surgeon a firm point of contact when tissue needs to be pulled back and held in position. The other end is a 15 mm × 6 mm Langenbeck-style blade. Its broader surface is better suited to retracting wound edges and superficial tissue without relying on individual prongs.
Having both ends available means the surgeon can turn the instrument around rather than reaching for another retractor. The catspaw end can be useful when a more secure grip is needed, while the Langenbeck-style blade provides a wider surface for general retraction. This makes the instrument handy during facial procedures, flap elevation, wound revision, and similar work.
The retractor measures 15 cm (6″) overall. Its compact size works well in smaller operative fields, and the slim double-ended construction does not take up much space around the area being treated. The handle is easy to hold while changing the angle or amount of retraction as needed.
It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, providing the durability and corrosion resistance required for repeated surgical use. The material is suitable for routine cleaning and sterilization, while the prongs, blade, and overall finish are inspected before the instrument is supplied.
With an 8 mm sharp-pronged catspaw on one end and a 15 mm × 6 mm Langenbeck-style blade on the other, the Kilner Catspaw Retractor – Miniature Pattern gives surgeons two useful retraction options in a single 15 cm instrument.
