Description
The Mayo-Russian Tumour Forceps are designed for grasping and moving larger pieces of tissue during surgery. The broad, rounded jaws give the surgeon more surface to work with than a fine tissue forceps, making the instrument useful for tumour tissue, surgical specimens, and other dense soft tissue. Its longer shape is also helpful when the area being handled is deeper within the operative field.
The jaws have a serrated circular pattern. The small serrations provide a firm hold on the tissue and help keep it from slipping once it has been grasped. Because the contact area is relatively broad, the force is spread over more of the tissue instead of being concentrated at a narrow point.
Two lengths are available: 23 cm (9″) and 30 cm (12″). The 23 cm version provides a more manageable option for routine tissue handling, while the 30 cm pattern gives extra reach when the operative site is deeper. The choice can therefore be made according to the access required rather than using the same length for every procedure.
These have an elongated profile with a spring-style handle. The long arms keep the hand further away from the working end, while the handle can be opened and closed to make small adjustments to the tissue. This can be useful during procedures where a larger tissue mass needs to be repositioned without constantly changing instruments.
The instrument is manufactured from premium surgical-grade stainless steel for repeated surgical use. Each instrument undergoes quality inspection to check the alignment and condition of the serrated jaws, smooth handle movement, and overall finish. Proper cleaning, sterilization, and handling help maintain the instrument through repeated procedures.
For larger tissue masses and specimens, the Mayo-Russian Tumour Forceps provide a firm grip with a relatively wide serrated jaw. The two available lengths, 23 cm (9″) and 30 cm (12″), give surgeons a choice between a more compact instrument and one with additional reach for deeper operative fields.
