Description
The Norfolk and Norwich Deeper Prongs S/R Retractor is intended for surgical sites where the tissue being retracted lies deeper than usual. It is used in orthopedic, trauma, reconstructive, and general surgery. Its self-retaining action allows the retractor to stay in place. Once it’s adjusted, the surgical team is free to work without having to hold it continuously.
The retractor has opposing 4 × 5 blunt prongs. They are 70 mm deep and 23 mm wide, giving the instrument the reach needed for deeper tissue exposure. The blunt ends hold the tissue without sharp penetration, which can be useful when working around structures that need careful handling. The deeper profile is the main feature that sets this retractor apart from standard shorter-prong patterns.
At 20 cm (8″) overall, the instrument provides enough length to reach into deeper operative fields while still being manageable to position. The frame can be opened or closed as needed, depending on how much separation is required at the surgical site.
An integrated ratchet locking mechanism holds the retractor at the selected opening. After it has been positioned, the ratchet keeps the prongs in place instead of relying on constant pressure from the surgeon or an assistant. The exposure can be changed by releasing the mechanism and making another adjustment.
The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, giving it the strength required for repeated tissue retraction. With appropriate cleaning and sterilization, the stainless steel construction also provides resistance to corrosion and supports continued use over time.
The combination of 70 mm deep, 23 mm wide blunt prongs, a 20 cm frame, and self-retaining ratchet makes the Norfolk and Norwich Deeper Prongs S/R Retractor particularly suited to procedures where access to deeper anatomical structures is required.
