Description
The Osteo-Rotating Punch is made for bone removal during spinal procedures such as laminectomy and decompression. It has a 40° upward jaw with a very thin footplate, which is helpful when the instrument needs to be used in a small or restricted working area. The thinner footplate keeps the end of the instrument less bulky, making it easier to position where space is already limited.
The rotating shaft is probably the feature that makes this punch most different from a regular Kerrison-style instrument. The shaft can be turned through 360°, so the jaw can be pointed in the direction needed without having to keep changing the position of the whole instrument. In practice, this gives the user more freedom to adjust the working angle while keeping hold of the handle.
There are two shaft lengths available, 18 cm (7″) and 21 cm (8¼”). The choice between them can simply come down to the working depth and which length feels more suitable for the procedure. Bite sizes are available in 0.6 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm. The smaller bites are suited to more limited bone removal, while the larger sizes can be used when a bigger bite is needed.
Another useful part of the design is the removable shaft. The shaft can be taken off when the instrument needs to be cleaned or serviced, giving better access to the individual parts. If a component needs to be replaced later, the removable design can also make that process more straightforward.
The Osteo-Rotating Punch is made from surgical-grade material and is intended for repeated use. It combines a thin footplate with a rotating shaft and several bite-size options, giving users more flexibility when working in the tighter areas of the spine.
