Description
The Straight Cement Gouge is designed for removing and working through bone cement during orthopedic procedures. It has a 30 cm (12″) length and a straight shaft leading to a broad, rounded working end. The long pattern gives useful reach when working deeper in the operative area.
The working end has a smooth and scoop-like shape rather than a sharp, narrow point. It is designed to engage with cement and remove it in a controlled way. The broad end gives a defined surface for working against the material without making the instrument unnecessarily bulky.
The gouge comes in 5 mm, 7 mm, and 10 mm widths. The smaller 5 mm size can be used where the available space is limited, while the 7 mm and 10 mm versions provide a wider working surface. All three sizes have the same 30 cm length.
The straight shaft gives a direct path from the handle to the working end, making the gouge easy to position against the cement. Its long length can also be useful when the area being treated is deeper and a shorter instrument would be difficult to place comfortably.
The handle is made from Tufnol and has a shaped, ridged surface for a firm grip. A strike plate at the end allows controlled tapping with a suitable surgical mallet when additional force is needed. The handle and shaft provide a solid connection between the hand and the working end.
Made with a premium surgical-grade stainless steel working section, the gouge is intended for repeated professional use and sterilization. Each instrument is carefully checked for quality, including the working end, shaft, handle connection, and strike plate. The gouge should also be inspected before use for bending, chips, or other damage.
The Straight Cement Gouge offers a simple long-handled design for controlled cement removal, with different working widths to suit the area being treated.
