Description

The Tudor Edwards Rib Spreader is used to hold the ribs apart during open chest surgery. It has two arms joined to a long central bar, with a screw mechanism between them for opening the blades. The spreader is supplied with three pairs of interchangeable blades and a key, so the blade size can be changed according to the procedure.

Three blade depths are supplied: 25 mm, 50 mm, and 75 mm. The 25 mm pair is the small blade, the 50 mm pair is the medium blade, and the 75 mm pair is the large blade. All three sizes have the same basic shape, with a broad surface that sits against the ribs when the spreader is in use.

The inner surface of the blades has rows of small raised teeth. These are positioned against the ribs and give the blades a firm grip while the chest is held open. The blades attach to the arms and can be removed when a different size is needed. A separate T-shaped key is included for adjusting the central mechanism.

This rib spreader is used in thoracic surgery and thoracotomy where the ribs need to be separated to reach the chest cavity. It can also be used during open cardiovascular procedures. The smaller blades can be selected when less depth is needed, while the larger 50 mm and 75 mm blades provide more coverage for wider chest exposure.

The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel for repeated surgical use. Before dispatch, every piece goes through our quality inspection process. The main frame, screw mechanism, blade fittings, interchangeable blades, and adjustment key are checked for proper movement and finish. Each blade is also checked to make sure it fits correctly onto the spreader.

Supplied with 25 mm, 50 mm, and 75 mm blade depths and an adjustment key, the Tudor Edwards Rib Spreader gives the surgeon three blade sizes to work with. The toothed blade surfaces, long central bar, removable blades, and screw adjustment make it suitable for rib retraction during thoracic and open cardiovascular procedures.
