Description
The Penfield Dural Dissector No. 2 is designed for delicate tissue dissection, dural elevation, and careful manipulation of anatomical structures during spinal and cranial procedures. Its slightly broader working end gives the instrument a little more surface for tissue handling while still keeping the design suitable for precise work around sensitive structures.
The instrument features a carefully contoured working tip with a broader profile than the No. 1 pattern. This makes it useful for gently lifting and separating tissue while developing a clear surgical plane. The opposite spatulated end provides another working surface for dissection and exposure, so the instrument can be turned around when a different end is needed.
The double-ended construction keeps the instrument balanced in the hand and provides good control during delicate movements. At 19.5 cm (7¾”) long, it offers a useful amount of reach while remaining easy to maneuver in a confined operative field.
The different working ends also make the instrument practical during procedures where tissue needs to be both elevated and separated. Having both ends available means there is less need to change instruments for smaller dissection tasks.
It is made from surgical-grade stainless steel and goes through quality control inspection before it is supplied. The instrument is checked for its overall finish and condition, while both working ends are inspected to make sure they are properly finished and secure. These checks help ensure that the instrument is in good working condition before use. The stainless-steel construction also makes it suitable for regular cleaning and maintenance as a reusable surgical instrument.
With its broader contoured tip, spatulated opposite end, double-ended design, and 19.5 cm length, the Penfield Dural Dissector No. 2 provides a practical option for controlled tissue handling during spinal and cranial procedures. Its slightly broader working end gives it a useful difference from the smaller No. 1 pattern while keeping the same basic double-ended design.
