Description
The Blunt Hook is used to hold, move, or retract tissue and other structures during orthopedic and trauma procedures. It is useful when the surgeon needs to get around a structure without using a sharp hook. The rounded working end makes it appropriate for procedures where surrounding soft tissue or neurovascular structures need to be handled carefully.
The hook has a blunt curved tip that can be placed around tissue, tendons, ligaments, or bony structures. Unlike a sharp hook, the tip does not have a pointed end intended to penetrate the tissue. The curved shape gives the surgeon a defined area to work with when pulling a structure aside or creating more space around the operative site.
Its shaft is slender and smoothly curved, allowing the working end to reach into narrower areas. The instrument measures 22 cm (8¾”) overall. This length gives enough reach for deeper surgical fields while keeping the handle within a manageable distance for positioning and adjustment.
A ring handle is fitted at the other end of the shaft. The handle gives the fingers a secure place to hold the instrument while the hook is engaged. Retraction can then be adjusted directly through the handle rather than relying on a separate mechanism. The simple construction also means there are no moving parts to operate during the procedure.
It is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel. It is intended for repeated surgical use and routine sterilization. Proper cleaning and maintenance help keep the curved tip and shaft in good condition while maintaining the steel’s resistance to corrosion.
The combination of a blunt curved tip, slender shaft, and ring handle makes the Blunt Hook suitable for procedures where controlled, atraumatic retraction is needed. Its 22 cm (8¾”) length also gives the surgeon useful reach when working around deeper or confined anatomical areas.
