The Browne Deltoid Retractor is used to hold the deltoid muscle away from the operative site during shoulder and upper extremity surgery. It is commonly used with the deltopectoral approach, where clear access to the shoulder joint and surrounding structures is needed. Its longer shape also gives the surgeon room to work without crowding the immediate surgical area.

The working end is a broad, cupped blade measuring 65 × 45 mm. Rather than pressing against the tissue with a narrow flat edge, the curved surface sits around the muscle and holds a larger area at once.
