Description
The Cement Splitting Osteotome is designed for breaking and removing bone cement during orthopedic procedures. It measures 30 cm (12″) and has a guarded working blade at the end of a long, narrow shaft. The length gives it useful reach when cement has to be worked on deeper within the operative area.
The blade is available in 5 mm and 10 mm widths. The 5 mm option gives a narrower working surface for more confined areas, while the 10 mm blade covers a wider section. Both versions have the same overall length and the same guarded blade design.
The guarded blade is the main difference between this osteotome and a standard flat cutting instrument. The raised section around the working edge helps guide the blade as it is placed against the cement, while the cutting portion works into the material. This makes it suited to controlled splitting rather than simply scraping across the surface.
The long shaft keeps the handle away from the working end and gives the user room to position the blade before applying force. The handle has a shaped Tufnol construction with a ridged surface for a secure grip. A strike plate at the end allows controlled blows from a surgical mallet when needed.
The two blade widths give some flexibility depending on the amount of cement being addressed. A narrower tip may be easier to position in a restricted space, while the wider version can work across a broader section. The guarded profile remains the same across both options.
The working portion is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, while the instrument has a Tufnol handle for impact use. Each instrument is carefully checked for quality, including the blade, guard, shaft, handle connection, and strike plate. The working end should also be inspected before use for bending, chips, or other damage.
The Cement Splitting Osteotome is a long-handled option for controlled splitting and removal of bone cement, with two blade widths for different orthopedic applications.
