Description

The Hintermann Distractor with Open Arms is used to create and maintain separation between bones or joint surfaces during foot, ankle, trauma, and reconstructive procedures. It can be used in arthrodesis, osteotomy, fracture management, and joint reconstruction where additional working space is needed. The open-arm design is useful when a wider distraction or easier access around the surgical area is required.

The arms have pin-placement holes for 1.6 mm and 2.5 mm fixation pins. These allow the distractor to be attached securely to the bone while the frame maintains the selected position. Once the pins are in place, the instrument can be adjusted to separate the bone segments or joint surfaces as needed.

A ratcheted distraction mechanism controls the opening of the frame. The adjustment can be made gradually, giving the user a way to increase or reduce the distraction during the procedure. The open-arm configuration also leaves more room around the working area, which can be useful when access to the surrounding structures is important.

Two sizes are available. The 15 cm (6″) version has a maximum opening of 28 mm, while the 21 cm (8¼”) version has a maximum opening of 32 mm. The appropriate size can be selected according to the anatomy and the amount of separation required. The longer version can also provide additional reach when working deeper in the operative field.

The frame is designed to remain stable once attached to the bone, while the ratchet allows adjustments to be made without completely repositioning the instrument. Before supply, the distractor is checked for its general finish, pin holes, and operation of the distraction mechanism.

Made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, the instrument is suitable for routine cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance associated with reusable surgical instruments. Proper care helps maintain the frame and ratcheted mechanism during repeated use.
