Description

The IMA Rib Retractor is designed for internal mammary artery surgery, where the ribs need to be held apart to expose the operative area. It consists of a long toothed frame with a sliding central block and adjustable retractor arms. The frame can be set up for use on either the left or right side, making the same instrument suitable for both sides of the chest.

The complete set includes a 100 mm channeled blade and two claw blades. The channeled blade is 100 mm long and 20 mm wide. The claw blades supplied with the set are 28 mm and 32 mm long. Additional claw blade lengths of 38 mm, 43 mm, and 50 mm are also available for separate selection.

The channeled blade has a broad flat surface with a channel running underneath its length. It attaches to the frame at one end and sits against the chest wall. The claw blades have narrow curved ends with small hooked tips. These fit around the rib and can be positioned at different points along the supporting rod.

This retractor is used during internal mammary artery harvesting, particularly in coronary artery bypass procedures. It helps open the intercostal space and keeps the ribs apart while the internal mammary artery is exposed and prepared. The left or right configuration can be changed according to the side being operated on, rather than requiring a separate frame for each side.

The instrument is made from surgical stainless steel for repeated use in the operating room. Before dispatch, every piece goes through our quality inspection process. The frame, toothed bar, sliding block, blade fittings, claw tips, and adjustment parts are checked for proper movement and fit. The supplied blades are inspected separately before the set is packed.

Supplied as a complete set with a 100 mm channeled blade, 28 mm and 32 mm claw blades, and a standard frame, the IMA Rib Retractor can be converted for left- or right-sided use. Its interchangeable claw blades and broad channeled blade give the surgeon different points of contact for rib retraction during internal mammary artery and coronary bypass surgery.
