Description
The Mollison Self-Retaining Retractor – Adult is designed for procedures where tissue needs to be held apart for a clear and steady working area. It is used in plastic, ENT, reconstructive, and general surgery. Since the retractor holds itself in position, the surgeon does not need to keep one hand on it throughout the procedure.
The working end has opposing 4 × 4 sharp prongs with a 14 mm prong depth. The sharp points grip skin, fascia, and soft tissue and help keep the retractor from shifting once it has been positioned. This can be useful when tissue needs to remain separated for an extended part of the procedure. The curved frame also leaves space around the operative site, making it easier to work around the retracted tissue.
It measures 17 cm (6¾”) overall. Its larger size provides more reach than the Child pattern and gives the surgeon room to work in areas that require a little more depth. An integrated ratchet locking mechanism controls the opening of the retractor. After the desired width has been set, the ratchet keeps the prongs in that position, maintaining the selected amount of retraction.
The instrument has a balanced, ergonomic construction that makes it comfortable to handle and adjust during surgery. Its design is straightforward, with the locking mechanism built directly into the frame rather than requiring a separate clamp or adjustment tool.
