Description

The Norfolk and Norwich Self-Retaining Retractor is designed for holding tissue apart during plastic, orthopedic, reconstructive, and general surgical procedures. Its larger frame and deep prongs make it useful when the operative area lies further below the surface and the tissue needs to stay retracted for a period of time.

The retractor has opposing 4 × 5 blunt prongs. The blunt ends provide a firm hold on the tissue without the sharper points found on some other self-retaining retractors. There are two prong-depth options. The standard pattern has prongs measuring 50 mm deep and 23 mm wide, while the deeper version has a 70 mm prong depth for areas requiring additional reach.

A built-in ratchet locking mechanism holds the selected position once the prongs have been placed. The retractor can therefore maintain tissue separation without someone having to hold the handles continuously. The opening can also be adjusted during the procedure if more or less exposure is needed.

The overall length is 20 cm (8″). This gives the instrument enough reach for deeper surgical fields while keeping the frame manageable to position. The choice between the standard and deep-prong patterns depends mainly on the depth of the operative site and the amount of tissue that needs to be held back.

The larger frame is intended for procedures where a small retractor may not provide enough working depth. Before supply, the instrument is checked for its general finish and operation, including the condition of the prongs and movement of the ratchet.

Made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel, the retractor is suitable for routine cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance associated with reusable surgical instruments. Proper care helps preserve the prongs, frame, and locking mechanism.
