Description
The Olsen-Hegar Combined Needle Holder / Scissors brings two useful functions into one instrument. It can be used to hold a surgical needle and place sutures, then the built-in scissors can be used to cut the suture without having to reach for a second instrument. This makes it especially convenient during procedures where suturing and cutting happen one after another.
The instrument has tungsten carbide inserts in the jaws. These provide a firm surface for holding the needle and are suited to repeated use. The integrated scissors are positioned within the instrument so that suture material can be cut while the needle holder is still in hand.
It is available in 14 cm (5½”), 16 cm (6¼”), and 18 cm (7″) lengths. The different sizes give surgeons some choice depending on the procedure and how much reach or control is preferred. The shorter version is useful when working close to the surgical site, while the longer sizes provide additional reach for areas that are either deep or harder to access.
The combined design can be particularly useful in plastic, reconstructive, maxillofacial, and microsurgical procedures, where precise suturing is often followed by trimming of the suture. Instead of putting one instrument down and picking up another, the user can perform both tasks with the same instrument.
The instrument is made from premium surgical-grade stainless steel and undergoes quality inspection before being supplied. The checks cover the jaws, tungsten carbide inserts, needle-holding action, scissors, and overall finish to ensure the instrument is properly finished and ready for use. The stainless-steel construction also makes it suitable for regular cleaning and maintenance as a reusable surgical instrument.
For procedures that involve frequent suturing and suture cutting, the Olsen-Hegar Combined Needle Holder / Scissors offers a practical two-in-one design with three available lengths and tungsten carbide inserts for the needle-holding jaws.
