Description
The Weitlaner Self-Retaining Retractor is made for keeping a small area of tissue open during surgery without needing someone to hold the retractor throughout the procedure. It is used in plastic, orthopedic, neurosurgical, and general surgery, particularly where a steady view of the working area is needed.
Its 3 × 4 blunt prongs have an 18 mm depth and sit opposite each other at the end of the retractor. The blunt tips hold the tissue rather than cutting into it, while the multiple prongs spread the pressure across the area being retracted. This gives the surgeon a stable point of retraction without using a sharp-pointed configuration.
The instrument is 14 cm (5½”) long, so it remains fairly easy to position when working in a smaller surgical field. The frame is compact enough to avoid taking up unnecessary room around the site.
